Skills Needed to Become a Professional Translator and Linguists

French Language Education Study Program Department of Foreign Language Education FBS Unimed held a Seminar with the theme “Translation and Linguist as Profession: Profitable Job Prospects for Foreign Language Professionals” online through zoom application on Tuesday (10/20).

This seminar presented expert speakers namely Dr. Rudy Sofyan, S.S., M.Hum., (Deputy Director of USU Language Center) and Yogas Ardiansyah, S.Pd.M.Hum., (French-Indonesian Linguist of Variety fiction). And opened by the dean of FBS Unimed Dr. Abdurrahman Adisaputera, M. Hum., and Followed by Vice Dean in FBS, Head of Department, Head of Study Program and 125 participants consisting of Lecturers, Teachers and Students both from inside and outside the Unimed environment.

Dean of FBS Unimed Dr. Abdurrahman Adisaputera, M. Hum., said at the opening ceremony, “Translation activities and linguists in French language education courses may inspire and new insights and especially related to French. And also presumed that the science of translation we need to implement so as to bring the progress of FBS and the world of linguistics or language in general.

Dr. Rudy Sofyan told his presentation, “If you want a bespoke translation or the best quality, you have to come to a professional translator and pay as needed. I have never done a translation that is as cheap, fast and inaccurate as it comes from a corner store. My translations are all custom-made; made for measuring; bespoke; best quality, very fitting, interesting to look at, comfortable and easy to use”.

Yogas Ardiansyah as the second speaker said in his presentation, “what the translator must master is to be able to understand the source language, theory and techniques of translators, write in the target language and then build relationships of editors, publishers, networks of translators and spur creativity in the opportunity to transfer the latest rides and products”.
