The speakers at the webinar were Prof. Dr. Syawal Gultom, M.Pd. (Professor of Unimed), Dina Martha Tiraswati, M.Pd. (School Superintendent of Education Office Prov. Jabar), Welling Han, M.Sc. (Education Consultant for The Field of Learning Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel) and moderated by Jatnika Hermawan, S.Si., M.Si. (Directorate of Professional Education and Teacher Development and Education Personnel).

The event was attended by thousands of participants from all over Indonesia, consisting of teachers, supervisors, principals, education personnel, education practitioners and academics.

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Syawal Gultom, M.Pd. conveyed developing understanding of Wellbeing’s Student for principals and target teachers by paying attention to the readiness and needs of learners as well as the feasibility of materials, processes, and assessments of learning. Such aspects of psychology include physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual readiness. Then padagogy aspects include the feasibility of materials, processes and assessments, and the latter is the Socio-eco-cultural aspect that covers the needs of individuals, communities, nations, countries, worlds and also civilizations. Thus creating a person of faith, piety and noble character with a high level of learning quality and strong character education including being a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor to civilization. Therefore, instructional leadership is needed which begins with a complete understanding of the current context of Indonesian education and other countries, the context and perspective of teacher professional development, the current context of learning atmosphere in schools and the latter is to understand the current context of graduate competence.

He continued, “Long-term education is the single most decisive factor in widening the gap. Therefore, investment in education is the logical way to eliminate poverty and poverty in society. The paradigm shift in development in 2020 and beyond includes the wealth of civilizations including the development of civilization-based welfare, civilization as the capital of development, civilized human resources as the capital of development, education as creator / disiminator. The capital development of civilization-based welfare including individual capital, socio-cultural capital, government system capital, knowledge / skill capital, it will be realized through integrity in welfare development.”

“As a country rich in natural resources and huge potential, Indonesia should already be a developed and prosperous country. In fact, there is still a high poverty rate in Indonesia, which is estimated at 24.74 million. There is something wrong with this condition, how we talk About Indonesian education, we talk about human quality, or talk about the target of the golden generation in 2045. Isn’t this paradoxical with Indonesia’s natural potential, but it cannot be utilized and prospered?”

“America was behind technology and science in the ’80s. John Kennedy just said this “What’s wrong in our classroom?” what’s wrong in our classrooms? Just imagine the development of a country, technological advances know-how it just says “What’s wrong in our classroom?” means the mistake of learning from class. Learning from the classroom, we don’t want to turn on anyone, we will also salute our wonderful teacher, but there are 45 million Indonesian children who are learning well, which with sincerity may only be 25 percent. How to build this country, here’s the real proof that it started from class and school. Therefore, let’s improve the quality of educators or teachers as the main characters/actors of classroom management. Now how do we build the paradigm of teachers, principals and supervisors? All our efforts are in the interest of the students. What do you want to make? What is the teacher’s view of the students and what exactly the formulation is. If more technical, his speech and competency formulation in the student because the learning process is not connected for example if formulated only on competencies only, but the teacher formulates the learning competency of students who reach level 6 level of thinking it is expected that the learning process will get there. Therefore, teachers must be creative and innovative to master at least four things about the current context of Indonesian education including the context and perspective of teacher professional development, the current context of learning atmosphere in schools, the current context of graduate competence for all types and levels and pathways of Indonesian education.”

“In the current pandemic, learning in schools is turning to home and parents. Education takes place remotely through online and blended learning. How teachers and principals work with families or parents, so that education can continue properly. Not all learning can be taught online, there must be a role for teachers and parents to guide and teach directly. Professional teacher competencies include being able to carry out professional tasks as an interesting educator, able to formulate indicators of high-level thinking learning achievements that must be possessed by learners including knowledge, skills and attitudes as a whole and future-oriented, mastering teaching materials including advance materials meaningfully that can explain aspects of content, philosophy and their application in daily teaching, able to design learning by applying the principle of combining knowledge of teaching materials , pedagogic as well as information and communication technology and other relevant approaches, able to implement educational learners by applying information and communication technology to build knowledge, skills and attitudes of learners in solving problems critically and humanist, innovative, collaborative and communicative, using learning models and learning resources supported by research results, able to evaluate inputs, processes and learning outcomes including attitudes , students’ knowledge and skills by ingesting authentic assessments and utilizing evaluation results to improve the quality of learning and be able to develop themselves sustainably as professional teachers through research, self-reflection, search for new information and innovation.”

“Whatever the problems that occur including the Covid-19 Pandemic, education must continue. But our education can only be quality because of all of us. Changes in behavior, changes in attitudes and mindsets are the beginning of improving education in Indonesia. Therefore, important figures of education must be able to change mindsets and paradigms about education, strengthen the integration of value in learning, shift the paradigm of competency curriculum into capacity, integration of new content, and innovation of process and assessment,” concluded Prof. Syawal.
